Creek Indian Creation Legend

Creek Indian Creation Legend
The Creation Legend of this tribe, which was common to other members of the Muskhogean family such as the Choctaws and the Seminoles, begins with the Sea of Waters after the Deluge out of which arose gradually a great mountain, Nunne Chaha, on which Esaugetuh Emissee resided. As the waters receded he moulded mankind out of clay and when this had dried in the sun it became endowed with life. These were the ancestors of the tribe. This is an interesting variant of the usual North American Deluge legend as there is no question of the waters having been preceded by a great fire. It is possible that this particular tribe originated in an area different to that of the majority of their neighbours.
